1,000 Dollars & an Idea
Explore Booksellers may be a quaint independent bookstore, but when it comes to business there is nothing quaint about its owner. Over the past half-century self-made billionaire Sam Wyly has reshaped the American business landscape. (Fortune Magazine called him the most important entrepreneur of the 20th century.) Sam's memoir, 1,000 Dollars & an Idea is a business book... an economic history of modern America... and an entertaining tale of the American Dream. It's selling fast at bookstores across the country. But if you want a signed first edition, order it from the author's bookstore.

If you liked the movie, you'll love the book

Apen's 18th annual Academy Screenings runs from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3 and many of the Oscar-buzz films showing this year are based on books. In many cases, a movie you like is even more engaging as book where characters, subplots and subtle irony can be developed in greater depth. So if you like the movie... we have the book at Explore. This year see and read:
*The Secret Life of Bees -- based on a bestseller Sue Kidd.
*The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- adapted from a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Revolutionary Road -- by Richard Yates.
*Defiance -- adapted Nechama Tec's non-fiction book, Defiance:The Bielski Partisans.
*Wendy and Lucy, based on a short-story in Jon Raymond's new collection, Livability Stories.
*Gomorrah, adpted from the Roberto Saviano novel.
*The Duchess based on Amanda Foreman's bestselling biography of the scandalous 18th century aristocrat Georgiana Cavendish.
*The Reader based on the award-winning novel by Bernhard Schlink. (The first German novel
to top the NY Times bestseller list.)
