Welcome to Explore Booksellers

Some of our most loyal customers are regular Aspen vacationers and their reactions upon returning to Explore after being away for several months are especially rewarding. First, there is the expression of familiarity... Explore remains the store they remember -- a favorite place unlike any other in the world. We appreciate those sentiments. After all, that's the reason we bought the business when its future seemed uncertain -- to ensure it remains the venerable Aspen institution it has been for over 30 years.

Their second reaction, however, is equally appreciated... Yes, Explore Booksellers is the same, but with some great new additions. There is a coffee shop; a rare book section; a beautiful new room for author events (or relaxing in an over-stuffed chair); a shaded outdoor patio; plus more events and community partnerships than ever. In fact duiring peak summer and winter seasons, we have book signings by nationally prominent authors almost every day.

The Bistro also remains "a different great place to eat in Aspen" -- delicious, unusual foods in an intimate pleasant setting... but even better with a commitment to local, sustainably-grown foods and wonderful new menu items in addition to our traditional favorites.

Making Explore even more...

1,000 Dollars & an Idea
Explore Booksellers may be a quaint independent bookstore, but when it comes to business there is nothing quaint about its owner. Over the past half-century self-made billionaire Sam Wyly has reshaped the American business landscape. Fortune Magazine called him "one of the most, if not the most, important entrepreneurs" of the 20th century. Now with the hailed publication of his memoir, he's also a successful author.
1,000 Dollars & an Idea is a business book... a memoir... an economic history of modern America... and an entertaining tale of the American Dream. It's selling fast at bookstores across the country. But if you want a signed first edition, order it from the author's bookstore.

Extra special books

At Explore we're surronded by worthwhile books, but some we offer have added value. First, famous authors from around the world visit Aspen and make it a point to come to Explore. As a result, we have a number of author autographed books including many signed first editions. (Click "recommended" on the navigation bar to see a complete list.) Plus our rare and out-of-print section can reconnect you with your childhood favorites, add a classic to your collection or provide the perfect one-of-a-kind gift.
