Events at Explore

Explore is committed to offering the best literary experience possible; so in addition to our selection of books, service and unique store setting, we also offer a line-up of literary events not available anyplace else in the world. That means a steady schedule of the leading authors -- Bestsellers... Pulitzer Prize winners... and the nation's foremost scientists and social commentators... experts on timely, provocative topics.

Among this summer's line up, we were pleased to host political commentators Madeleine Albright, Cokie Roberts; praised Indian authors Anita Rau Badami, David Davidar, and Manil Suri; world renowned violinist and author Eugene Drucker; bestselling novelists Ted Bell and Julia Alvarez; bestselling biographers Walter Isaacson and Pulitzer Prize winner Martin Sherwin; nationally-acclaimed social observers Robert Thruman and Hara Marano; NPR sports commentator Stefan Fatsis; Harvard/Smithsonian astro-physicist David Aguilar; and legendary businessman Sam Wyly. Plus dozens of other well known authors representing a wide-range of intellectual fields from art and design to the sciences, medicine and self-development, to politics, world affairs, religion and social issues.

This fall we will contuinue to offer opportunities to meet interesting authors but at a more relaxed schedule. Keep watching this page for upcoming events.

September

19th: Humanitarian Kari Grady Grossman signs Bones That Float, 7 PM. Like Three Cups of Tea, Grossman’s story is of making a difference building schools in a neglected corner of the world. Intensely personal with a message for all humanity, you absolutely cannot read Bones That Float impassively. Winner of the 2008 “IPPY” Outstanding BooK Award: Gold Peacemaker of the Year and two 2008 Nautilus World Changing Book Awards this is a story of a tragic history and hopeful future. Join Grossman for a remarkable presentation of her work in Cambodia.

20th: If life is getting too serious… you need an appointment with Dr. Pharte, 4 PM. Phil Altfeld is a second generation prankster. Not like your “pull-my-finger” Uncle Billy, but a true master. A person whose lifetime of practical joking has taken him to Hollywood, into high society and around the world. Join Phil as he reads and tells tales from his memoir, Dr. Pharte (the “e" is silent): Confessions of a Hopeless Prankster.

1,000 Dollars & an Idea
Explore Booksellers may be a quaint independent bookstore, but when it comes to business there is nothing quaint about its owner. Over the past half-century self-made billionaire Sam Wyly has reshaped the American business landscape. Fortune Magazine called him "one of the most, if not the most, important entrepreneurs" of the 20th century. Now with the hailed publication of his memoir, he's also a successful author.
1,000 Dollars & an Idea is a business book... a memoir... an economic history of modern America... and an entertaining tale of the American Dream. It's selling fast at bookstores across the country. But if you want a signed first edition, order it from the author's bookstore.
